In the amplification of its decision, the Jury wrote: "Endeavouring to understand and justify all of his heroes, Gavran shows himself to be an artist who sketches our time and the reality which surrounds us with contemporary sensibility and an open heart. It is no accident that the central place in the majority of his dramas and plays is taken by a woman, whose richness of character and still hampered position in society are described by Gavran in a realistic and evocative manner, making his female characters likeable and understandable... Gavran is an author who manages to give universal themes the spirit of the everyday and the human, and who, when dealing with the local, speaks out in an universal language."
